Preserving Our History: Meet Author Kath Gilbert at Long John Pickles
Behind Empty Roads, Empty Promises lies three years of relentless dedication, listening, and heart. Kath Gilbert set out to uncover and preserve the long-forgotten stories of the 1979 Razorback Truck Blockade - a time when hard-working truckies, their families, and communities stood together against unfair road taxes.
Through countless conversations with drivers, police officers, wives, and journalists, Kath didn't just collect history - she reconnected people with precious memories they hadn't held in years. Her devotion ensures these powerful, quintessential Australian stories are now safely preserved forever in the National Library of Australia and the State Library of Victoria.
